To most people, setting up streaming web cams may seem to be a pretty daunting task to achieve though in fact it need not be since the learning curve is pretty short while the fun involved in the project is a lot. In fact, setting up streaming web cams requires no more than a computer that will act as Windows Media Encoder as also a Windows Media service provider. The encoder is what sends streams to the Windows Media service provider which in turn then does the cybercasting to the rest of the world.

Streaming Web Cams - Costs Are Not As High As You May Be Fearing

In case, you are wondering how high the cost of setting up streaming web cams will be; well, the costs are not as high as you might fear since you can serve webcams through dedicated Windows Media Publishing Points, Measured Usage Streaming Media Publishing Points or through Media Server Bundles with the latter two being your best options.

First off, you need to be sure about where to place your webcam and it would be best if the camera is aimed at a spot that is interesting because that will ensure obtaining entertaining footage. Furthermore, if you want to earn some bucks out of streaming web cams, all you need to do is to put some paid advertisements into the video stream. However, you should make a note not to point the camera into the sun at any time during the day as that will only help to destroy your camera.

Next, to ensure that your streaming web cam pictures are of high quality, you should ensure using a camera that has firewire output or even SVideo. Also, you need to ensure that you have proper lighting, especially when shooting indoor scenes. Next, you need to be sure as to the type and quality of audio content that your streaming web cams transmits and here you will be spoilt for choice.

You should now turn your attention to setting up the computer to act as Windows Media encoder which in turn must be connected to the Internet (preferably, broadband). The good news is that any Windows personal computer will be able to act as the encoder though if your computer is fast you can make the scene busier and the data will be processed a lot more efficiently as well.

You must also install Windows Media Encoder software after which you will need to signup for service from firms such as CNS who should be offering dedicated plans that will only bill you according to the greatest numbers of simultaneous views. That’s all you really need to know about how to setup streaming web cams in your home.

When an online blog or diary just does not complete the picture, personal web cams are being used to broadcast live video feeds from a variety of locations to anyone with a computer and an internet connection. While most people use their personal web cams for video conferencing with friends and relatives, others are willing to broadcast their daily routine over the internet for the whole world to see.

For many families, personal web cams are a way to really stay in touch, especially for those living any distance apart. Parents of adult children that live in other states and, subsequently their grandchildren, can be put in visual touch with their distant loved ones by using the video conferencing available with personal web cams. They also help young children remember what distant relatives look like so they are not as scared when visiting once or twice a year on holidays.

Parents with new additions to the family can set up personal web cams in the infant’s room and keep an eye on them while working in their home office. Additionally, if they are inclined to share, can give their relatives the web address so they too can log in and watch the new baby sleep, or play while lying in their crib.

Personal Web Cams - Telecommuting Becomes More Personal With Camera Use

With a growing number of people choosing to work from home, they can be made to feel like part of an organization when included in meetings. By using their personal web cams their participation in meetings and conferences can be more personal and it is easier to put a face to the name of the person on the conference when they can be seen, as opposed to the disconnected voice coming out of a speaker phone on a conference call.

Despite the fact that there may be some less than tasteful uses of personal web cams as some choose to broadcast their every move onto the internet, the good news is that others are not forced to watch, or listen if the camera is equipped with sound capabilities. Logging off is usually easier than finding the address and logging out of the website.

Live broadcasts using personal web cams have also enabled individuals and groups to develop their own media broadcasts as they sit in their homes and present their opinions over the internet. Some bloggers are turning to using personal web cams to offer their blogs in more than writing on a page, making some of them almost interesting to watch.

Web cam innovation has evolved considerably since web cams came on the scene back in 1991, when the computer lab at Cambridge University focused a web cam on its coffee maker so that users could see whether the pot was empty or full before making their way to the kitchen.

The Pacific Northwest is considered a technologically advanced region, thanks to the substantial business presence of high-tech leaders like Microsoft, Intel, and Tektronix. An impressive network of Oregon web cams has evolved, making web cams in Oregon some of the most popular on the Internet today.

Scenic Beauty With Oregon Web Cams

Oregon residents agree that their state is one of the most beautiful places on earth. Sharing that beauty with the rest of the world is a natural use for an Oregon web cam.

Mount Saint Helens Volcano: One of the most popular Oregon web cams is actually located at Mt. Saint Helens in Southern Washington, which transmits never-before seen views of northern Oregon.

Sea Lion Caves: This Oregon web cam broadcasts images of the largest sea cave in the world, updated every 30 seconds.

Lincoln City: Portland television station KATU sponsors an Oregon web cam located at The Inn at Spanish Head Resort Hotel. This web cam, aimed at the Pacific Ocean, transmits views of the Oregon surf, Oregon’s powerful winter storms, and spectacular sunsets.

Portland, Oregon Web Cams

Web cams are just as pervasive in urban environments as they are in the scenic wilderness. In fact, urban web cams get many more views, because the action changes much more frequently in the city than it does, say, at the beach. Let’s face it: after you’ve watched the Sea Lion Cave web cam for 24 hours, you have pretty much seen it all. Not so with urban web cams: the landscape changes constantly as people and traffic moving about add a new element of voyeurism to the web cam experience. Web cams that capture transportation centers are particularly popular at the moment.

Amtrak Station: The RailCam at Union Station has transmitted nearly 20 million images since it was installed in 1998. The camera updates automatically every 15 seconds and shows passenger trains arriving and departing on northbound and southbound tracks.

Portland International Airport: The airport web cam at Oregon’s only international airport, PDX, is also sponsored by KATU. Mounted high on the Embassy Suites hotel building, this Oregon web cam captures the control tower at PDX as well as inbound and outbound vehicle and aircraft traffic.

Have you ever been outside and needed to see something far off but did not have a set of binoculars with you. Binoculars can be cumbersome and expensive to carry around for everyday use but a monocular, on the other hand, can be just what you need to see things far away in the distance. They are easily transportable and can fit in your purse, backpack or even coat pocket. You can take them everywhere you need to go. The best part is that they really are not that expensive.

Monoculars are small, versatile versions of their twin scope cousin, the binocular. They are versatile and can fit in a purse or pocket easily. They have many positive aspects, yet the monocular also has a few drawbacks for serious watchers. The difference between telescope binoculars and monoculars is size and how many barrels each one has. It is best to use size as your gauge. The telescope has a much larger barrel and the magnification is much stronger.

Do not let magnification fool you. The larger the magnification capacity, such as with marine binoculars or even the standard bird watching binocular, the larger the barrel will have to be and you may find yourself sacrificing size for magnification. Another area where bigger is not always better, at least where monoculars are concerned, is the optic lens size. Larger may seem better but in this case you want to maximize your optical quality rather than increase the optical lens size.

Most monoculars for everyday use do not have to be waterproof. If you intend to be using them primarily for outdoor use, such as for duck hunting, then you will want to be very sure that it is waterproof. Something else to keep in mind when using monoculars is how far your eye can be from the optical lens and still get to see everything in the field of vision. This is very important if you wear glasses. Optics Planet recommends a minimum of 14mm to account for the thickness of your glasses.

A monocular is a great way to see the world. You cannot get past the fact that they are extremely compact and useful in most situations. But one of their greatest advantages is that you can flip them over and use the smaller end to see small print, almost like a microscope. The next time you are out and about in the woods or even in town, give monoculars a chance to show you that they can be quite valuable, optic viewing devices.

Early in mankind’s history, superstition reigned supreme regarding the stars and the night skies. It wasn’t until the invention of the telescope that scientific fact could sway the opinion of the masses. Space optics magnified distant objects and provided clear images to study, and early scientists learned a great deal about the planet, the solar system and other objects surrounding us. Not to mention the improvements made to land and sea navigation. Further refinements have produced microscopes, binoculars, camera lenses, and other common optic devices that are commonly used today.

The earliest known telescope was created in 1608, and Galileo Galilei built his in 1609. Galileo is credited with the first astronomical uses of the telescope. Initially, it was used to spot ships. Johannes Kepler further improved upon Galileo’s design in 1611. From its modest creation from a pair of lenses, the telescope of today bears little resemblance to its ancient ancestor. The telescope falls into three categories: reflecting, refracting and catadioptric. A reflecting telescope uses an arrangement of mirrors, a refracting telescope uses an arrangement of lenses, while a catadioptric telescope uses a combination of lenses and mirrors.

Telescopic research is an area where technology has advanced. When presented with the limitations of the refracting telescope, development of the reflecting telescope commenced. Initially designed in 1616, it wasn’t until 1668 that Sir Issac Newton developed the first practical reflecting telescope.

As with other telescopes, the larger the primary reflector, the better the image will be. Today’s optical systems range from less than 2 meters to over 11 meters. Unfortunately, the atmosphere of the earth limits the effectiveness of ground based systems because of atmospheric distortion. Several solutions to this problem have been found, including the Hubble Space Telescope.

Since its beginning in renaissance Venice, the telescope has assisted or directly contributed to numerous advances or discoveries. Ocean navigation depended upon it. Astronomy was born from it. Cameras were developed from it. Just to name a few. And we haven’t finished learning yet. There is still a lot left to learn about these miraculous inventions, and mankind has, and will continue, to benefit immensely from these discoveries.

Technology keeps improving telescopes and other optical systems. This new technology will push for the development of additional orbital platforms, which will help to eliminate atmospheric distortion plaguing other telescopic systems. As each new layer of technology is invented we can count on being able to see the distant solar systems in a new and more interesting light. When you think about how far the telescope has come from its initial, humble beginnings, it is an amazement unto itself.

For the most part, humans are not able to see in the dark unless aided by some form of night vision device. Granted, the eyes can adjust to the darkness and have some form of sight but the range is limited and not as detailed as it would be if using night vision binoculars. These binoculars, plus night vision monoculars are rapidly gaining in popularity with outdoor enthusiasts, private investigators, law enforcement personnel and hunters. The ability to see in the dark of night is something that is a necessity for some people.

You have an initial choice when it comes to nigh vision equipment. You can choose monocular or binocular form. Night vision devices have a general classification from which to choose, and these categories have to do with the image tube. The choices are 0 through 4, and most commercial night vision binoculars are a generation 1. One side note: there has to be some sort of light in order for any night vision device to work. It can be starlight, moonlight or even infrared light but there has to be some sort of light in order to see.

Keep in mind your intended use when selecting your optical systems. If you require binoculars for “hands free” use, then head mounted gear is readily available. Perhaps you would like to navigate at night. If so, many models come with an independent infra-red illuminator, useful for reading maps or a compass. If not included, a stand-alone unit is readily available. Feel the need to explore photography at night? Adapters are available for many cameras allowing them to utilize your night vision device. Specialized protective cases are also available from many sources. Many other monocular and binocular accessories are available as well.

Seeing in the dark is a necessity sometimes. Yet does the average person need night vision binoculars? Probably not, but for those individuals who do need to explore the grandness of nature at night, it is a necessity. Sure it all started with the military. Many of our most popular technological devices used in the outdoors did originate with the military, yet were modified for consumer use. These nighttime binoculars are a great way to see things that might normally go undetected. You may be a hunter looking for a particular prey or simply a bird watcher searching for that unique bird to add to your list. The reasons are many for having these binoculars.

Everyone has had a moment when they witnessed something and as they were trying to tell the story to their family and friends, they dearly longed for a picture to go with the story. Digital camera binoculars are a great way to be able to capture that moment. By combining the aspects of a digital camera with that of a pair of binoculars, anyone can capture that special moment on film. Digital binoculars are extremely useful to bird watchers, as well as for anyone who wants to observe nature and its inhabitants, while also being able to preserve the image.

There are many vendors that offer versions of digital camera binoculars. Knowing what to look for will help you choose the model that will best meet your needs. A higher megapixel count will ensure that your photos are clear and not pixilated. Lower end models will often provide less than one megapixel, producing images reminiscent of those produced by the first camera phones. The ability to choose between pictures and video is appealing to many users. Of particular interest is the ability of some models to save videos up to 30 seconds in length, prior to pressing the button! Other items to look for in digital binoculars include expandable memory, PC connectivity, long battery life, and a light weight.

Towards the high end products, manufacturers have built the camera into the binocular optical components. This ensures what you see is what you will get a picture of. This also allows the camera to focus at much closer objects than other non-collimated models. Most models provide an LCD screen for you to preview the image before saving it. This becomes useful in video mode, where the binoculars are basically transformed into a video camera. Otherwise, in camera mode, the preview screen ensures that your images are clear and focused, and worthy of saving. There’s nothing worse than taking a picture that you can’t even identify!

Digital binoculars are a blend of two technologies and as such will not be as good as the binoculars and digital cameras that are sold as individual pieces of equipment. But as a combination of the two it is a great way to simply look, press and save the images that you have observed. Rest assured that technology is ever changing and new digital camera binoculars will be able to compete fully against their singular use cousins in the future.

It can be extremely frustrating to need to see something in the distance and not have the ability to do so. That is why many people will purchase binoculars and monoculars just in case they need them for a sporting event, an outdoor excursion or simply to sit on their back deck and watch the birds in the distance. But once that initial purchase is complete there are still accessories that you will need if you want to keep your binoculars for long distance viewing in top shape.

Optics Planet is a great place to shop for binoculars and binocular accessories. You can find an Audubon back strap for less than twenty dollars. This specialized strap holds the binoculars close to your chest for optimum viewing. By keeping them close you can quickly bring the binoculars up to your face rather than fumbling around with a traditional neck strap that may come with the binoculars when you buy them.

If you are looking for a stable mount for your binoculars, then you may want to try the tripod binocular mount or the car mount. The Bushnell Small Window Car Mount can be found for under $15. It is very portable and easy to install on any car. You can sit in the comfort of your car and watch whatever it is you wish all from a steady mount. No more swaying and bobbing for you.

Optical systems are pricey, so if you have paid out the big bucks for a Kowa Waterproof/Fog proof observation binocular, then you will not want to miss out on the Kowa High Lander Carrying Case. It is also not cheap. This case sells for $345 on Optic Planet.com but is sturdy aluminum. You can safely tuck your expensive binoculars into the case and not have to worry about the optic equipment becoming damaged. This is especially useful if you travel a lot and want to take your equipment with you for your binocular spotting adventures.

At www.opticsplanet.net you can find many of the binoculars and accessories that you will need to enjoy the outdoors or sporting events. As a further enticement you can count on great shipping rates and sometimes even free shipping with certain items, such as the Kowa High Lander Carrying Case. That is a great bargain on a case that may be just right for your optical device needs.

Necessity is the mother of invention. That has been true for thousands of years. If a person needs to see something in the distance and comes up with a way to do so without moving farther towards the object, then an optical system has been employed. These optical systems, such as binoculars, are used by many different types of people, from military personnel to outdoor enthusiasts. Binoculars for recreational and occupational use have brought about many new inventions within the optical field, and no doubt, as more people pick up a set, a future generation of outstanding products will be developed.

Binoculars have come quite a long way since their early beginnings and the first set was made by mounting identical twin telescopes side by side. By using two identical telescopes, a distant object was able to be seen with some sense of depth perception. The lenses used were convex and concave, but they did not have much magnification power. New lenses use prisms and are able to offer the viewer a better sense of depth perception, color and brightness.

Depending on the intended use, different optical components create different optical parameters. Among those parameters are: magnification, objective diameter and field of view. Magnification defines the magnifying power. The objective diameter is the measurement of the objective lens, usually in millimeters, determining how much light can be gathered to form an image. The field of view specifies how wide an area can be viewed at a given range, and is commonly done by using the magnification times the objective diameter. For example: 10×50 would define a 10x magnification with a 50mm objective lens. Often these parameters are listed near the eyepiece.

From high powered, platform mounted systems, to hand held opera glasses, binoculars come in a variety of configurations to meet virtually any need or price point. Marine binoculars, with water resistant coatings and large objective lenses are found on most ships at sea. A 7x to 12x magnification, with 30 to 50 mm objective lenses are predominant for outdoor use. Amateur astronomers are concerned with the ratio of magnification to objective size, so a lower magnification will provide a larger field of view, providing improved images of larger objects. Sets specially designed for astronomy will have high magnifications and large (70 - 80mm) objectives. Be warned however, that the more specialized they are, the higher the price will be.

Once upon a time there was only the spyglass or the telescope to see things in the distance. Since that time, binoculars and monoculars have been developed as a way to improve distance viewing. It fact, binocular scopes have given the viewer binocular vision, by utilizing both eyes instead of just one. This wider viewing area, improved optics and improved image was a great boon to the many who use viewing devices. People in the military, outdoorsmen and scholars can now utilize both eyes instead of just one, as was the only way in the past.

Binoculars utilize two single lens optic systems to provide a number of improvements to the viewed image. By using both eyes, stereopsis, which is a perceived sense of depth and dimension, is created as each eye combines slightly different images. This sense of depth is something previously unavailable with monoculars, which used just one eye. By using binocular vision, each eye receives its own image, resulting in increased detection of movement and minute details. This effectively doubles the usefulness for the user.

With any form of optical components, when more light that is gathered, the better they perform. By utilizing two lenses instead of one, binoculars capture twice as much light as similarly rated monoculars. Some of the benefits include a wider field of view and less eye strain for the user. Since each lens captures a slightly different image, the field of view increases. The wider field of view means that the user will be able to observe a larger section of the object or terrain being viewed, without having to scan from side to side. Additionally, by using both eyes, the user is able to observe naturally, without having to close one eye, thus further reducing eye strain.

The benefits of binocular vision are immense. Limiting yourself to the use of only one eye instead of two is a considerable handicap. Think of some of the limitations this would cause in your daily life. Your normal viewing area would be cut in half. Decisions, based on what you see, would require additional time to make. Seeing distant objects would require more effort and would cause considerable eye strain. However, modern optical components and binocular accessories have allowed users an improved viewing field.
