Ney the itiot led the best cavalry force in Europe to their ruin. Napolean didn't lose battles, the incompetence of his marshals accomplished that for him.
By: gantzmetallica. on 10 Dec 08, 22:03:31
napoleao was a brillant man , he deserved have won this battle ...
By: corvus7655. on 08 Dec 08, 21:34:51
-Actually, there was no Lancers of the Old Guard. In the Waterloo campaign they were simply one regiment known as the Lancers of the Imperial Guard. They had 3 squadrons. The first being Polish, the other squadrons were French and Dutch. The only Old Guard units in the Imperial Guard were the infantry units made up of soldiers with long military service. These were in the units of the 1st and 2nd Regiments of Grenadiers of the Guard, and the 1st and 2nd Regiments of the Chausseurs of the Guard.
By: tomteetom1. on 08 Dec 08, 21:24:55
youre partly correct. the lancers of the old gaurd were french. but the poles won napoleons favor with there victory in somosierra, spain in 1808. he called them his bravest cavalry and placed them in the old gaurd as a seperate regiment of lancers the first polishn uhlan. the were at napoleons side till the end from then on.

This is a pretty good film. I've seen it before on telly.
By: slizzler1. on 02 Dec 08, 15:10:55
Yes -heroic proportions! - that's why I'm here; to make it known that other Allied troops in the Waterloo campaign were excellent soldiers and brave. And to destroy those silly myths that suggest otherwise -as if the non-Brit Allied units were just 'extras' in the background.
By: TyrolsHeroHofer. on 27 Nov 08, 21:20:38
@slizzler, the Nassauers' story's indeed very interesting, how these troops from Germany in Dutch service braved their horrific hardship EVEN BEFORE the actual battle was amazing: a large number was marooned off Texel & had to cling to the wreckage for days on end under the most atrocious weather conditions without any food & drink.First thing those who survived did was to grab their weapons & rush back onto the continent to fight Bonaparte(after they had been equipped in Britain).

People will read all the facts I've mentioned and the Belgian units that were at Waterloo- they'll also research the Swiss army units that served under Napoleon- that were designated as SWISS. Napoleon himself was witness to the massacre of the King's SWISS bodyguard during the Revolution.... so anyway if you want to keep talking crap and make a fool of yourself by not researching keep babbling- I'll keep correcting you to reveal your inferior non-intelect disability.
By: slizzler1. on 24 Nov 08, 09:56:27
You tommy-toka-toy, are my inferior regarding knowledge about the Napoleonic Wars so don't sit there and babble stupidity about 'roman times' regional names. I'm only replying to your crap because I feel its important to beat unbiased education and commonsense into that goldfish-sized monkeybrain of yours. Anyway- keep replying like an idiot and I'll teach you more about the topic, and how unprovoked name-calling results in you being embaressed with a good pimp-slapping.
By: slizzler1. on 24 Nov 08, 09:51:30
haha- you piece of nastyness tommytoxen- how pathetic you sound crying at the name calling after you start of by being vulgar without provocation. You are a chimp-lipped little slut. Belgium was as I referred to- you are a stupid little mutt making up names that were not used for regions at the time. Belgium was not called Batavia during the Napoleonic Wars- people will check and see the totality of the uneducated little arse wipe tampon that you are.
By: tommytoxen. on 24 Nov 08, 07:26:06
The area which is now 'Belgium' was actually called 'Batavia' - Hanover was an independent state as was the Helvetian Republic (Switzerland). Learn your geography, cunt. Grow up while you're at it, bloody name calling. You don't see me resorting to insults, do you? No. But that's because I'm not immature. You daft silly cunt.
By: tommytoxen. on 24 Nov 08, 07:24:47
Stop lying, you silly daft cunt. Pick up a book.
By: slizzler1. on 23 Nov 08, 15:52:09
Before you get mad at me for replying with name-calling to your own slurs, go right now to your bathroom with one of your comics - beano or achie's- and then start reading it quietly ; if you glance in the mirror at the same time, you'll see lips moving like a chimp's does.
By: slizzler1. on 23 Nov 08, 15:11:18
-The reunification of the Low Countries as the United Kingdom of the Netherlands occurred at the dissolution of the First French Empire in 1815.- excerpt from wikipedia Research the 'belgic' shako used in the Napoleonic wars and the following BELGIAN units in the Dutch Army at Waterloo; 2nd Belgian Carabiniers, 5th Belgian Light Dragoons, and 8th Belgian Hussars, 7th Belgian Line infantry battalion. Tommytoxen-now start your research properly and keep your chimp-lips shut you moron.
By: slizzler1. on 23 Nov 08, 14:57:26
Tommytoxen you chimp-lipped piece of nastyness -you need to knuckle crawl and lope over to a library or your commodore 64 computer and do some real research you thick headed shoe-sized IQ smacktard. Where did you come up with Batavia! Youtube should ban illiterate goons like yourself; After the Eighty Years' War (15681648) divided the area into the northern United Provinces -the "Federated Netherlands"+ "Royal Netherlands"[ most of modern Belgium]
By: tommytoxen. on 23 Nov 08, 03:29:02
Strange, considering Belgium didn't even exist then. It was Batavia, you cunt.
By: slizzler1. on 22 Nov 08, 14:30:08
Interesting history researching about the Nassaeurs - 400 of them drowned in bad weather in early 1815 while being transported from England back to the Netherlands. 3 companies of Kruse's 2nd Nassauers, defended Hougoumont woods at the start. The rest of the regiment played a prominent role in defence of the ridge in Wellington's center particularly later in the day.The other regiment was on Wellington's far left holding the farmhouses critical to establish the link with the arriving Prussians.
By: TyrolsHeroHofer. on 21 Nov 08, 21:12:55
@bearm.. you are complete shithead a n y Nassauer would not even consider his boots worthy of kicking U into your face... Nassauers were one of the bravest units around on the battlefield. Not only were they all day long engaged in the thick of battle, they most bravely held on to key positions like Hougoumont too - they warded off several heavy enemy attacks, particularly from the garden wall & from inside the castle. They were the ones who shielded the British counterattack from that point
By: slizzler1. on 14 Nov 08, 17:38:22
They were actually russian soldiers used as extras.
By: slizzler1. on 11 Nov 08, 19:15:04
Wellington ordered the Nassauers to retreat, but a grenadier company and a light company still carried on to get rid of the French guns. Suddenly a body of French cuirassiers appeared and destroyed these brave Nassauers. They were not pussies -they had heavy casualties both at the center where Kruse's regiment was stationed and in the other Nassau regiment stationed on the Allied far left.
By: slizzler1. on 11 Nov 08, 18:41:42
bearmare -sory if I misunderstood your point. If you were referring alone to Nassauers, here's a part of the battle that is not well known regarding them. You know enough about the battle I assume regarding Lambert's brigade getting destroyed in the center just after La Haye sainte fell. A French gun battery was killing the entire Allied center with canister. It was Kruse's Nasseurs who bravely attempted to rescue Lambert by attacking the battery, but took heavy losses in the failed effort.....
By: slizzler1. on 11 Nov 08, 18:37:45
The Prince of Orange was a tactical idiot, but he was never a coward - he was on the front line exposing himself to danger at Quatre Bras and Waterloo- one of the very few good points about him considering all the Allied soldiers lives he destroyed by his incompetence.
By: slizzler1. on 11 Nov 08, 18:35:22
bearmare- are you aware that there were NO DUTCH troops in the first line of allies where the Middleguard Grenadiers of the Imperial Guard were making a breakthrough! Research it yourself or I'll provide you with links of the details. The units that broke and ran were units much reduced in numbers being on the front line all day; these were Halkett's British,Kielamansegge's Hanoverians, Brunswickers,+Kruse's Nassauers did retreat. It was Chasse's Dutch in the 2nd line that beat THESE Imperial Gd
By: bearmare. on 11 Nov 08, 08:01:41
Except the Nassauers. The whole lot were pussies because the Prince of Orange was such a coward. They broke and ran -- the Brunswickers had to seal the line. Fucking Nassauers.
By: Dinotheb0ss. on 31 Oct 08, 23:24:04
cause one lost battle he lost a hole empire? hahaha very funny
