It is indeed played backwards, the band wrote it forwards then learnt it backwards then after recording it reversed it.

The song wasn't played backwards. Every note/beat was turned backwards in the studio. Drums, bass, trumpets, etc were all turned around but guitar is still forwards, as is the accordian. The production on this record was mind blowing at the time, real cutting edge stuff. And then there's Siouxsie. The vocals are stunning. This song really upped the ante in recording studios around the globe. Punk, goth, new wave? Nah, it's the Banshees. In a class of their own.

I love Siouxie!!!! I got to sing this with her at the Fetish Ball in "99" switchblade Symphony opened but everyone was there for Siouxie.She had this red feather boa and she was ripping feathers off of it and sprinkling them on us in the front.I still have some of them!
