If the guy had less water on his body, he would maybe stop suddenly half-way down the 'lane' as his skin would dry off and there would not be enough liquid between him and the plastic to create that smooth motion. The friction would be too great now and his skin would snag onto the ground and cause burns. The water prevents that friction, which is why he slides in the 1st place. ^_^

Have you ever been to a swimming pool and seen signs that say don't run? That's because the water lapping over the sides of the pool covers the ceramic tiles on the ground. Water + Smooth surface = Slippery. Most places have rubber mattings place around the egde now to prevent such slips and potential injuries. The plastic sheet is just as smooth as those tiles, and the sandwhich effect of Water between Plastic and Body equals the outcome of sliding.
