in my eyes, barenboim is a fine musician and conductor. he was married to one of the greatest musicians of our time, so his talents will never outshine hers, but i don't think he would be where he is if he SUCKED. if the music world had to lose one of them, it's too bad it wasn't just barenboim having a midlife crisis and deciding to be an architect, because the loss of du pré left a hole that is still palpable today.

I have this on VHS. It is an hour long made for TV program called "The All Star Swing Festival" which was hosted by Doc Severinson. The Benny Goodman Quartet was just one segment within that hour, and some of the other numbers they performed were Avalon, Moonglow, and (I think) Memories of You. I really don't know if it's available any more.

Some French-made ligatures for the Clarinet have the same "flat" area where the reed rests against the ligature. It doesn't matter where the screws are facing per say, just that it holds the reed in place with a flat area.

I think I may have an answer: notice at 4:33-4:35 how the music doesn't quite line up correctly, like the footage was edited. I think that Kenny did take a solo that night, but it was cut from the video due to time constraints.

One of the best trumpet solos in jazz...a real classic on a beautiful tune. I was always impressed too with Clifford's fast tonguing. I never heard that. They often used tritones. In the simplest explanation, classical music is all about introduction and resolution of the tritone. Everyone just has different ways to get in and out of it. They never played the locrian mode for the reason you gave. They did play tritones.

Each scale and mode has a formula like that with steps and half steps. If you only use the white notes of the piano and use C as the 1st degree and hit all the white notes that is the formula for a major scale. Srart on D and go to D using only white notes that is the formula for Dorian mode. Start on the 6th degree which is A and using only white note going up to A, that's the formula for the Aeolian mode or more commonly referred to as natural minor.

I messed up in my excitement. The formula is 1-1-1/2-1-1-1-1/2..so..1-CtoD-1-DtoE-1/2EtoF1FtoG1GtoA1AtoB1/2BtoC for a major scale. So, instead of going from E to F you would go to F#.

as a person who has played all bari to soprano for years, I would disagree with you. you also need very good control on bari to make full rich sound.

truthfully the lower end is the easiest if u have a big enough lung capacity and to sound good on the higher instruments u need a hell of a lot of control with ur air and tone
