i did wushu and my sparring partner did muay thai. wushu can very much be used for fighting wushu trains you so that your punches and kicks are fast flexible accurate and powerful if you have a fighters mindset it can easily be applied. as for street fighters their nothing. never have i been touched in a school yard fight or when some one has tried to mug me and all i ever did was wushu

Well... average. The fight looks too choreographed. There are so many points where one guy pauses in the fight waiting for the next move. I wouldn't want to fight you outside of a performance, hell no, but in one you've got to try and make it look more natural.

For me it's like this: I have not seen to much wushu to have a professional opinion on this; but it's like a dance, yes it's impressive to see a fast and extreme dance - but seeing several after each other will get boring after a while, that's when you need flavour. But nowadays they train wushu all the same, they need to get back some of the other styles of kung-fu, not limiting it

I love alot of these forms that were created in the 50's through the 70's for competition because they still had amazing gongfu and flavor plus alot of the elements of the traditional styles. Alot of people still get confused now as to what is really traditional and what is contemporary but thats a debate generally political in nature and not one I am a fan of so I simply call this style 'old school modern wushu to avoid debating with traditionalists.

also I hate to point this out as well, but most of these forms are new forms invented in the last century mixing elements of traditional shaolin Quan, Cha quan and Hua Quan. If one would be so inclined as to compete in a shaolin form at an international level, they would have to do a form similar to this, so I wouldn't even call these 'traditional gongfu.' granted, I think they are 10000% better than modern nandu wushu and they have way WAY more gonfu than nandu wushu in my opinion.

The same can be said for this video. Here the monks are doing wushu (Martial Arts) though they are doing a traditional style of wushu. Than your argument would have to be simply a matter of opinion between which has more gongfu, the sport or the tradition, either way it doesn't change the fact that they're both called wushu in china. Only through our own interests can we assume which has more gongfu, but that is something that is personal and subjective.

But that is only because Wushu has become a sport that looks like that, There are both traditional and contemporary styles of Tae Kwon Do for example, and both have gongfu in their own ways, though one is more of a sport created for world competition while the other is a traditional martial art. What I meant to say was "traditional", or the "origin" of Wushu(??), is from GongFu(??). The Shaolins in the vid most likely practice traditional because they strengthen their bodies, unlike other Wushu performers who only practice their forms and flexibilities. I was just trying to point out that Wushu is basically the showoff version of Gongfu, with less power and harder to use in real fight, but "cooler" for Hollywood fans.

Thank you for that lesson. let me give you one in linguistics my friend. Wu = Martial, Military Shu = Art Kung Fu = Gonfu = "Great Skill (through persistent effort)" There is no such thing as a "traditional version" of Wushu, though there is "traditional Wushu" and both have very unique gongfu. hey! wushu literally means martial arts. so unless you understand that! i highly doubt you understand chinese WUSHU. shaolin wushu means SHAOLIN MARTIAL ARTS. so unless they are doing a dance created by traditional dancers of the chinese people, i'm still gonna see this as SHAOLIN WUSHU!!!!! you say gong fu in china- they will say what? you say wushu in china-they will take you to a wushu school or the shaolin temple! so i hope this helps you in your understanding of martial arts.

meh...Shaolin Kung Fu is not the only type of Kung Fu/WuShu. There are taoistic kung fu and even islamic kung fu and of course most styles are not associated with any religion at all. I still prefer shaolin kung fu. The chinese gov took away the buddist aspect of kung fu, to make it political more correct. and also flattened out the meditation component. In this way they made it a kind of martial ballet. Wu Shu is Kung Fu without a heart

Omg, gung fu is no style in itself. And Bruce Lee did some Wing Chun, and Jackie practiced some Choy Lee Fut. Though when Jackie trained at the Peking Opera it was not CLF, but Wushu something. And Jet Li was the champ in Wushu something at age 12,13,14, and 15. more or less, stage fighting.

Jackie Chan uses a style of stage fighting. He never practiced an actual martial art. Though I'm very sure, based on his moves, that the roots of his stage fighting are in Wushu. Bruce Lee originally practiced a form of Wushu known as Gung Fu. This he perfected along with the moves he learned from the other styles he studied briefly to create his own style, Jeet Kune Do. I can't tell you much about Jet Li since I'm not a fan of him.

Cung beat Jason pretty handily in 1997 or 1998 in the first ever American pro San Shou match. However, Jason's students tend to beat Cung's students. There was no knockout, head kick or otherwise. Cung is *not* undefeated in San Shou. He has 2 losses.

However Costa Mesa is EXTREMELY far away from me, lol im sorry but do you know of any in Corona that's where i live, or in Norco, Riverside, Fullerton, Santa Ana??? any gyms that teach sanshou?

do a google search for : sityodtong los angeles this is one of the best muay Thai gyms in the country. Do at least a year with them before moving onto anything else. you need master the thai stuff to do modern san shou.
