The story isn't so focused on Heathcliff and catherine, it's more about Heathcliff's love towards Catherine and the dreadful effects love can have on a person! It's more psychological than endlessly romantic. Of course it's romantic as well, but I don't like it that the whole film looks if it centres mainly on the relationship between heathcliff and catherine. still, i'm looking forward to it.

This is so brilliant. I love this rendition and the video plot of stalking that couple is hysterical! I have tried valiantly to see any merit in Kate Bush's singing, dancing, and whatever it is she does, and it only deserves this kind of clever parody. I love this guy's voice and his jazz rendition. the live version is exceptionally good.

IMO, it's wrong that you choose to comment negatively instead of just chalking this genre up to "not one of your favorites" and moving on. I agree, Heathcliff's character was toned down quite a bit. The book is always the best way to go for being genuine and original (obviously), but that totally doesn't mean the movie isn't incredible not only as entertainment but (like you said) Laurence Olivier's acting was amazing for what he set out to do. :)

I was a bit disappointed with this movie version of the book. I expected it to be great, but it was just OK for me. It's not bad as a stand-alone film, but I don't think it's a good movie adaption because IMO it doesn't capture the spirit of the book. All the lovely rough angles of the book have been softened and toned down, and that kills it for me. Heathcliff, for instance, is too nice and soft in this film. Still, I absolutely loved Laurence Olivier as Heathcliff! He's an amazing actor.

I always love Sakamoto's music. The 1st time I knew his works was from the soundtrack album of The Last Emperor 14 years ago in Sydney. And I became his fan ever since. I would have to agree. I wouldn't like the young teen characters for this. But the actors may look kinda young, but the characters were past high school in this movie. In fact I think they were all twenty-somethings. Also, this movie is only very loosely based on the book.

I agree and can see the similarities but Catherine made some wrong choices too. For example her reasons for marrying Edgar Linton in the first place. Some people come out hating Heathcliff when he is not the only one at fault. Everyone in that novel did something evil or of bad nature throughout the story.

Oh darling the movie won't help you a darn bit...Maybe you should try reading the novel. It may start out slow but wants Ms. Dean tells Heathcliff's story you will not be able to put it down. It is amazing but tragic.

I liked Ralph Finnes as Heathcliff, he has just the right amount of intensity and passion, but I wasnt too sure about French Julette Binoche as Cathy. She does have a meloncholic sadness about her which is appropriate for Cathy but she does look very French.

We read this book/saw the movie in English class earlier this year, and the whole romantic fiasco was always viewed with amusement for the most part. I never realized how tragic it really would be. Now I feel kind of ashamed, thinking back over it while watching this mesmerizing video. Really, no one should have to go through something as terrible as Heathcliff & Cathy did...it's awful.

Remember the first time I heard this - I was at a Student's Union bar and it came blaring out of the speakers I was gob-smacked I couldn't believe her voice - awesome!!! Timeless!! I can see why people draw comparisons between her and Tori Amos (I love her too!) both have a very unusual range in their voices, plus I think they are both theatrical performers not just vocalists.
