The amount of mercury in these lamps is miniscule, but yes there are millions of them going into landfill. This is not how mercury passes into the environment or the food chain however, so don't fret about it. Virtually all unnatural concentrations of environmental mercury are the result of industrial processes such as coal burning and scrap smelting, which vaporize mercury and disperse it into the atmosphere via the smokestack. Lightbulbs in landfill don't do this. Get over it.

I do value goodness and morals, but far to often in the effort do do good the truth is diluted with fantasy. You cannot allow emotion and feel-good morals to interfere with the brutally complex and important issues.
