I think turbo engine will have boost controller, which mean that with thin air, turbo will spool more to maintain the boost. O2 sensor will rich the mixture to prevent the engine from running lean. Thus, power from turbo engine will not suffer that much when compared to NA engine.

good question... i for one would love to drive up pikes peak sometime, would be a great driving experience, right up there with the nurburbring and the tail of the dragon. although i am 14, so i guess for now i need to suffice with driving sims :) i'd assume they just set the ECU pretty rich so it doesn't start detonating at the top

Wasn't sure about any of the complications concerning Timing, mixture, and boost level. I have to admit that before this week I'd never really paid any attention to "The race to the clouds". (Other than Gran Turismo 2) As Globally Important Motor racing events go, it is (or should be) right up there with Le Mans, Macau, Daytona, The Indy 500, Monaco. I'm thoroughly blown away by some of the risks taken by the drivers going up this mountain. They have Balls the size of basketballs. ;)
