I can't find it at the moment, but I stand by that underground music have more artists that have written lyrics not to just satisfy a record label for money.

I'm writing a paper right now about differences between mainstream and underground hip-hop (is Mr.Lif considered hip-hop?) Basically I'm saying that the mainstream artists are (the majority) just about money, making themselves look like the shit, and praising the "gangsters" life. While the majority of true underground artists have intelligent lyrics that are about issues, REAL life, and etc. Drives me crazy that people actually think people like 50 Cent are someone to look up to.

Don't think it got much to do with black/white, more that the average listener to mainstream radio or tv wants easy to digest music. Take Jazz for example, musically it's as good as it can get, but it can be hard to get into. So for people to appreciate it they have to put thought and time in it. The average listener doesn't feel like putting time into anything, they just want to nod their head a lil and then get on with the next. Plus mainstream also uses a lot of eye candy (bling, money, cars)

Mr Lif and the ilk will never be as big as 50 Cent, Soldier Boy, Chamillionaire, etc. MTV won't play videos by real Hip Hop acts who actually have a vocabulary and something to say that's worth listening to because it's far easier to market the negative black stereotype to middleclass white youths than that of a positive image.

when I hear this guy and others like JediMT, Deltron etc... I start to wonder how people like 50'cent can be so successful. If I were one of those "mtv puppets", I would lock myself up in my room and practice after hearing mr. lif.

mo mega was rather disappointing, but this track is ill as shit...funny thing is the remix of this song with can ox (both members of which drop some of the wackest verses in their career) has one of the illest lif verses in a while dispite the fact that ox almost ruins the track before hand...
