He used a mkll tonebender and a wah . jimmy had his wah on a lot ..and he also had a gibson distortion modified by roger mayer. until 73 he used various amps onstage..from 1973 on his live set up mostly got his overdrivedrive from the marshall plexi heads modified to 200 wats apiece with kt88 tubes. I have a clone of the tonebender . if u want that sound check out throbak electronics the "stonebender" worth every penny..

thank you for the media material. this is like an oasis, because where i live, we drown in a sea of substandard popular music that lack integrity and heart. oh, and the dude who stole my bootleg zeppelin collectible lps when i was 15 (hard to come by in Seoul)... i hope you get got (heh). ppl whom understand that in some places/times good music is hard to come by may share my sentiments (crazy censorship during military rule of the 1970s-80s). again, thnx.

Sabbath isnt as much as a pimple on the asses of Led Zeppelin.
By: mcmuffin300. on 21 Nov 08, 00:47:02
ok, keep your ignorant blissful comments to yourself. you obviously dont understand the position of early rock musicians and the instruments they used. so save the shallow opinions for something else

OK cats listen up. I'll tell you what it was like to see & hear a live Zep concert. Aug 1969 S.A.Tx. 2 bands before. & 1 is J Tull who blows everybody away. But then comes Zep. P>P>B&J come out so strong it was as if someone had sent a 1,000,000 volt charge through your body. Some moron designed a rotating stage & the Hemisphere arena acoustics were like a cave. The power blows it's total darkness and all U hear is B's drums hammering and P's voice filling the arena. (Continued on 2 of 5)

It doesn't sound as twangy here as they usually do because its overdriven. I also find it hard to criticize Jimmy - he is a God to me to! We can laugh at his choice of guitar but not his playing of it or his songwriting and arranging or his charisma or his imagination or his stage presence or etc etc etc etc etc etc.....
By: freedomnow2012. on 19 Nov 08, 05:03:29
were these guys in there early twenties?
By: spacecowboy5150. on 19 Nov 08, 01:50:19
Ok my point is: that so called "awful" twangy sound definitely did not show up in this vid or in the stairway solo, and that is some ppls preference for sound, it doesnt make the guitar awful. I happen to like teles better than strats, they are actually better for led zeppelin sounds in my opinion. Oh and good comeback on me losing my critical ability through hero worship...i wasnt sure how to recover from that...you got me good...shows how much you know about guitar.
By: tony9L9L. on 18 Nov 08, 08:12:36
How can I criticize 'the most famous blah blah blah'? Like this; It has that awful 'twangy' country and western sound, even you must be able to hear it or have you totally lost your ability to be critical through hero worship?
By: spacecowboy5150. on 18 Nov 08, 01:32:49
I cant believe you're actually using that as an argument. How in the hell could you possibly criticize one of the most famous and admired solos of all time. Either you dont play guitar or you are just too dumb to comprehend that the tele produced the greatest solo of all time. But ya ur probably right...jimmy made a mistake in using the tele on stairway since that song didnt become very famous or anything and is not known for its solo at all. God you should read over what you say before entering
By: SebZoso. on 17 Nov 08, 15:37:39
How the fuck is this a "Lost Performance"???
By: tony9L9L. on 17 Nov 08, 09:40:24
That explains why it sounds so reedy and apologetic. I always wondered why the solo sounded so plastic. The telecaster is the guitar Leo Fender didn't get quite right, his experiment, his first try.He said so himself. I think Jimmy made a mistake although you probably can't comprehend that possibility can you?
By: spacecowboy5150. on 17 Nov 08, 07:22:23
Well lets see. Stairway to Heaven was on their 4th album so im pretty sure he had already gotten a les paul by then...but yet...holy shit he used a telecaster on the stairway solo! But wait isnt the stairway solo one of the most, if not the most, famous solo of all time. Well, first off you need to get ur facts straight before sayin things and i think the fact that jimmy decided to go with the tele for one the most epic solos of all time speaks for itself. Try and say something back to that
