There are some truly wonderful sequences in this match. Arguably, both men are at their peak here. Check out 6:03-7:00 and 7:12-7:17. Too bad this wasn't a long feud. We might have gotten some good matches out of it.

The WWF did this really well and the Sheik reaches the pinnacle of his career with this performance. He shows great intensity when he wins the title. Even with the towel angle, it is a convincing victory. Nonetheless, it's sad for what it marks. It marks the end of an era in the WWF and the beginning of something very, very different.

Not only that, but how many times could they go to the same ol' formula with Hogan? Someone is pals with Hogan, then they turn on him, then Hogan beats them in their match (i.e. Orndorff, Andre, Macho, Tugboat, Sid Justice, etc.)

I know the story is that Backlund wasn't as popular as he was at the beginning of his title run and that Vince wanted the belt on Hogan, but man, Backlund was pretty over here!

Hogan by far was the most entertaining wrestler until stone cold and Rock; however, he was so damn boring. All you ever saw was his hulk up, three punches or so, then the big boot and the leg drop. Only time I enjoyed a hogan match was when he fought the Ultimate warrior in 1991.

He wasn't even injured, McMahon just wanted to screw him over. McMahon wanted Backlund to turn heel and lose to Hogan outright, but when Backlund refused, they needed a transitional champion to serve between Backlund and Hogan. Backlund, recently "injured" in a TV angle where The Iron Sheik assaulted Backlund, lost the title to the Sheik. Because Backlund was declared "injured," he was denied a rematch. Maybe you should learn more before you open your month.
