I think this is by far the best dance of the movie and the only song I like better is "Somewhere." I'm surprised that in the play this scene takes place before the war council; it makes more sense after the deaths.

Bernardo (George Chakiris) and Anita (Rita Moreno)are hot, hot, hot! Everyone in this film is excellent, but these two really stand out. No wonder they both got Oscars for the role. I also include the little drama before the song because I love seeing them bickering like an old married couple.

The leap and catch is a standard dance move. The use of Broadway dancing is an interpretation of violence. It's not supposed to be realistic, it's artistic expression something completely lacking in almost all films today.

This is one of my favorite scenes of the movie- I've watched it a million times! I love where Riff (Russ Tamblyn) is about to flip and Action scrambles out of the way so he has enough room. The Jets try to play it cool after Riff's death. I think this is one of the best performed and arranged sequences of the film. Can you imagine expressing repressed anger through pirouette? Genius. And I love how they stare into the camera (supposedly where the Sharks are) in the end.
