actually, there is a lot of potential in this "second life" I think. Lots of people are commenting that only losers with no life go on to escape thier current one, but in actuallity, second life is kind of boring to "act out" real" life, for now at least. I think the more we expand into the digital world, the more important an application like second life will and could be. Who knows, lots of people are skeptical of new things, and maybe second life is a dud, but dont knock it just yet.

Thanks, Really i don't see any quest in that game, i mean garry's mod doesn't have any quest, but at least you can do stuff that look like a quest, Like building a car,making stuff with wiremod etc... Actually the thing about PC upgrading is a bit oversimplified. It's true, the CPU sockets always change but so do motherboards, memory chips and graphic cards. To keep up with recent operating systems one has to constantly upgrade his/her PC. But then, most people do not really need the latest operating system and software... even a PC from 5 years ago is perfectly fine to write documents/email or surf the web.

Heifetz in his prime, playing Saint-Saens' Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso. From the 1939 movie, "They Shall Have Music". Possibly the best bit of fiddle playing from him I have ever seen. The slow sections reflect his wondrous capability for expression.

First of all, this piece IS a show-off piece. Saint-Saens wrote it for Pablo de Sarasate, who had comissioned a violin concerto. Sarasate, as we know, loved to showcase his technical skills. So I think the fact that Heifetz DOESN'T show off is an incredible testament to his musical restraint and his respect for the composer. But I also prefer Perlman's recording. Though Sarah Chang plays a wonderfully melancholic Introduction, neither she nor Heifetz capture the charm of the Rondo Capriccioso.

Of course we can not like recordings irational , only taking into consideration the name written on top.However , it doesn't occur to me in any way that Heifetz transformed this piece in a "show-off". Technically perfect doesnt mean the best. Yes technicallay he might be one of the best but in this piece, articulation is not so well, feeling, soul cant be felt. This is not a showpiece like a Paganini caprice. If he plays caprice ok it will be best maybe, but in this, there is no better than Sarah Chang's interpretation. To be fan of someone regardless of logic, only relying on his name is not so good. I dont say Chang is a better violinist than Heifetz, but she plays this piece much better.

my teacher gave me the dvd version of this, sound quality was EXCELLENT and my god heifetz did not dissapoint, the way he played this piece set the standards so high that unless you played it like him it just wasn't worth watching, and also, in the DVD version he did have a distinct russian style BUT it was not brutal or harsh in anyway, it was more refined and delicate despite the russian influence, he's just too good to be limited by styles

It's really a preference of style: Heifetz is pretty Russian, both in playing and bowing. This results in a seemingly harsher and brutal style. That said, the recording devices at the time weren't exactly top quality.

What the hell? did heifetz change the key? cause I know first two notes should be E-A not F#-B. Btw, I like pearlman's rondo capricioso much better. They way i see it is that heifet is all about his fast playing and his crazy vibrato, pearlman plays much more sweetly than heifetz, therefore more enjoyable.

250 years ago Benjamin Franklin proposed that electricity was a flow of charged particles moving from "plus" to "minus". This was a guess, but it became the accepted model for electricity. He probably also introduced the concept of "ground". We now know that the charged particle is the electron and it actually moves from "minus" to "plus". Unfortunately Franklin's 200 year old guess still influences the vocabulary of electricity and electronics causing much confusion.

The only thing that prevents it is the IBM PC had an open architecture and many "clones" were produced. Still IBM's architecture prevails. Microsoft succeeded through great cockups of others: Digital, IBM and Apple. In the early days Microsoft (too) portrayed IBM as the evil empire. Funny how things change.

But my point is that they didn't even release Windows until after the Macintosh was released, and Microsoft didn't have hardly any power until 1995, over 10 years after this keynote. So Steve Jobs would literally have to be a fortune teller to predict that Windows would take over the industry, because there's no way to predict that. As acupuncturists we have to study Chemistry, biochemistry, all levels of Human Disease processes, all body systems of the biology of the human body, anatomy and the tcm subjects along with precise point location, Nutrition the list goes on, it's damn hard. They may be able to do acupuncture without certification but do they have any understanding of what is does, Qi, 5 element theory or TCM concepts and Taoism? No I believe not. TCM theory is far from being nonsensical. It is an allegory for what is happening in the body. All TCM practitioners have been trained in western medical theory, as well as standard anatomy and physiology and pathophysiology. We have also been trained in Western Medical pharmacology. The allegory is that the body is a microclimate, and that treatment is to remedy climatic disturbances; wind, heat, cold, etc. To think that Western medicine theory isn't allegory, is nonsensical, as well.

Hey Quack, you should get your facts straight. Certification is not voluntary, States license acupuncturists; in all but a few, this is mandatory; 5 states license as doctors of oriental medicine, and recognize oriental medicine as a complete system of medicine, on par with western medicine. The Master of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine degree is a first professional degree, on par with MD, JD, or DC. Most programs are 36-40 months.

Because in the US, all an AP practitioner needs is to comply with the State or the NCCAOM licensure, which just requires the applicant to pay a fee, be over 21 and to have obtained education from a "certified" institution. Acupuncturists study for 4 years post grad and can stay on for a phd as well. We study for 3800 hours (slightly more than MDs) but less clinical hours since we don't do surgery. Beware chiros and mds can take a 1 or 2 weekend course and "do acupuncture" APs take a national board exam and then meet state Dept of health requirements for licence as well as CEUs on a regular basis. No need to believe in anthing (do you believe in western med) since it works on animals just as well.

I accept that there may be some scientific merit to it, though i still believe that it's something the patient would have to believe in for it to take effect. Where as tranquilizers will knock anybody out, no matter what they believe in.

I suppose the first part of the word octave (oct from 'octo' meaning 8) is why I chose the eight note variation. Other scales may have a different number of notes covering the range of an octave, such as the Arabic classical scale with 17, 19, or even 24 notes (semitones), but the word "octave" is still used. I would've been more accurate saying "when the 8th note of a P8 (perfect 8 interval octave) is reached, a new scale begins, at double (or half) the frequency of the root note, repeatedly.

To Aporia 23, Think of fractal geometry like this. Take 6 equilateral triangles and put them all together, points facing inwards, now you get a hexagram. Now put 3 more triangles in the three opposite corners of the hexagram, and what do you get, a bigger triangle, now put those bigger triangles together and what do you get?
